Geoff Stevenson

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Geoff Stevenson, long-serving member of our Area. Geoff died on 16th July at North Middlesex Hospital, shortly after being diagnosed with cancer.

Geoff was a member of the Ramblers for 55 years, and had been presented a certificate of achievement by the Inner London Area. He was an active member of the former Southern Area of the Ramblers (the Area that stretched from Norfolk to the Isle of Wight) and joined the Inner London Area committee when it was set up over 25 years ago, continuing in his duties up until November last year

Geoff is remembered in particular for his leading role in organising and implementing the Railway Rambles and the Coach Rambles, for his path-clearance work with the Commandos, and for his encyclopedic knowledge of the countryside and rights of way of Essex and the other Home Counties.

He will be sadly missed.

Films on Foot Festival 2010

Are you a film buff or do you enjoy guiding people around London? Do you enjoy public speaking and talking to a large crowd of people? If so, you could be the ideal person to become a walk leader for this year's Films on Foot Festival.

The third annual Films on Foot festival will be taking place this year 13-28 October. Timed to coincide with the BFI's 54th London Film Festival, the festival is a series of walks organised by the Inner London Ramblers visiting various film locations within the capital.

It has proved incredibly popular. Last year 720 people joined one of the nine film walks. This year, the festival will be expanded to have even more film walks and so we are looking to recruit additional films on foot walk leaders.

If you would be interested in leading a Films on Foot walk or helping out as a back marker, please email the festival organiser, Eleanor Harris at eleanor.j.harris@hotmail.com.
