Volunteering
Whether you have a lot of time to give or just a little, there are plenty of
ways you can get involved in helping your local Group of the Ramblers'
Association. Here are a few ideas.
- Lead a walk on one of the Group's programmes. If you've not led one
before, most groups will be able to suggest routes and to give advice
about checking the walk out beforehand. If you're leading for the first
time, you might want to pair up with someone else, or try a shorter stroll
where there is less to remember!
- Devise a themed or special interest walk, such as a family walk, one for
the visually impaired, or one focussing on churches, war memorials, parks
etc.
- Help with mailing out programmes.
- Check and report problems on footpaths in your local area.
- Help organise a social event or a weekend away for your Group
- Help publicise the RA on a stand at a local event or festival. Inner
London Area members have previously helped out at Rise (formerly
Respect), The Outdoors Show at Earls Court, Urban
Escapes, the Wandle Festival and many more.
- Help with the website for your Group.
- Serve on the committee for your Group or Area.
- Write articles for one of the RA's regular magazines.
- Shoot photographs for use on the website and magazines.
- Become a Walking Ambassador, Footpath Guardian, or take part
in the Forgotten Paths Project.
- Sign up for the RA's Take Action newsletter, designed for people
with only a very small amount of time to commit.
If you are interested in helping in any way, please
contact your Group or Area secretary. Your help
would be very much appreciated, even if it's only an occasional hour or two.

Volunteering page of the RA's website.
