If you are joining the Ramblers for the first time, knowing what a typical day looks like can help you feel completely prepared. Our group walks are designed to be safe, highly social, and thoroughly enjoyable. There is no need to worry about navigation, keeping up with a fast pack, or getting lost—our experienced volunteers take care of all the logistics so you can simply relax and enjoy the fresh air.

When you lace up your boots and head out with us, here is what a standard day on the trail looks like:
  • The gathering: We meet at a designated train, tube, or bus station, or a clear landmark. The volunteer walk leader will gather everyone, brief the group on the route, and introduce the "back marker"—another volunteer who stays at the very rear to ensure no one gets left behind.
  • The pace: We walk at a steady, inclusive pace that matches the advertised Walk gradings. We regularly pause for a quick breather, a sip of water, and to let the group regroup.
  • Breaks and lunch: For longer day hikes, we always stop for a lunch break. The walk description will let you know whether to bring a packed lunch or if the route pauses near a village cafe or pub.
  • The finish line: Most of our walks conveniently end near a public transport hub. It is a popular tradition for many walkers to head to a local pub or cafe for a social drink and a chat before heading home, though you are always free to head straight off if you prefer.
Every group has its own unique character, but you can always count on a warm welcome and a friendly atmosphere. Check out our upcoming walks finder to see where we are heading next!
