• Route: Green Chain Walk
  • Section#: 4

We have had a report from a walker who points out that our walk guidance is misleading when it says that this section of the GCW is never muddy. He walked section 4a of the Green Chain in early Januaray.

The route has three areas where it is not paved and is prone to mud:

  • The path going through Dot Hill has some gravel sections, but other parts are quite muddy.
  • The northern half of the route through Shrewsbury Park is paved, but the southern half is across grass, large areas of which were churned up significantly. In places the churned mud is very wide.
  • The route across the small park at Shooters Hill is all across grass, the western end of which was muddy.

Fortunately for this walker, after some hard frosts, much of the churned mud was frozen, but he points out that warmth and rain will make these areas a bit sticky!
