Some time ago, a walker let us know about changes affecting our London Loop guide to section 1. A further report at end of December 24 confirmed that the gardens were still closed and looking like a building site. Now we have had another message in February 2025 with the image below showing that work is still in progress.
The Riverside Gardens are being completely renovated which means that at the moment they are totally dug up and fenced off. So you have to walk instead along the High Street until the left turn between the pub and theatre. (See the first paragraph of page 4 of our walk guidance).
The plan is to redesign the area and the riverside promenade. This involves works for the levelling and re-landscaping the site. Various items of Loop infrastructure have been removed including the Section 1 information board and the 'Robinson Crusoe' sign that we refer to in our guidance.
The work was scheduled for completion by the end of 2024/early 2025 - but there is currently no indication on site to suggest when the renovation will be complete.
